Big 12 Not Done Expanding?

The Big 12 is a real life soap opera and on the latest edition of as the conference turns, we might see another new member to the cast. Apparently the Big 12 might not be done expanding just yet…

NewsOK.com

The Big 12 added West Virginia on Friday, leaving Louisville in the wretched Big East. The Big 12 might be a pirate ship, but at least America wants to watch the Bluebeards play football.

But don't count out Louisville coming on board, too. And maybe sooner rather than later.

A Big 12 source told me that despite what Neinas said Friday, the conference has not settled on 10 as an ideal number. In fact, there could be a push to also invite Louisville soon and bring the membership to 11.

I would be for the addition of Louisville. I think the Big 12 needs to do whatever it can to get back to 12 teams. A conference with 10 teams is not stable, plus the Big 12 really needs a conference championship game.

TCU Topples BYU 38-28

TCU took down BYU 38-28 Friday night at Cowboys Stadium for their fourth straight win over the Cougars and third consecutive victory this season. The Frogs looked good at times, and looked sloppy at times, but they got the win and are now bowl eligible so that’s all that matters. Let’s take a look at this one.

- The TCU quarterbacks accounted for all four first half touchdowns. Pachall had two touchdown passes, while Matt Brown had a pair of scoring runs.

- Let’s start with Pachall first. I thought Casey played a pretty good game going 13-23 for 147 yards and 2 touchdowns. Some of his throws seemed a little off, but for the most part he was solid and didn’t turn the ball over.

- Matt Brown now has 4 TD’s in two games. It is clear that Brown’s running skills are much better than Pachall’s. I like how the TCU coaches have been using Brown these last two games. I think he brings an added threat opposing teams will now have to start preparing for.

- Earth to Josh Boyce, what’s up with all the dropped balls? You are this team’s number one receiver, you can do better than that.

- I thought the defense looked really good at times and then sometimes not so much. I liked that the Frogs were able to get pressure and force 4 sacks and 3 turnovers, but…they still allowed 354 total yards and 215 through the air. At times the secondary still let guys make catches they shouldn’t have and letting Riley Nelson run free all over the field wasn’t a good look either.

- Welcome to the party Jonathan Anderson. Anderson had a career high 17 tackles and his first career interception. The 17 tackles are the most by a Horned Frog since Martin Patterson had 20 versus USF in 2004. TCU has been looking for a guy to replace T.J. Johnson, could Anderson be that guy?

- I was also very impressed with Jason Verrett. Since the Baylor game he has shown improvement every single week. Verrett broke up a few pass plays and should have had an interception. I think by the time next season rolls around, this guy could be really good.

- Tank Carder had a season high nine tackles.

- I was surprised to see Ed Wesley fielding punts. With his injury history I’m not sure if that’s a good idea. I would prefer to see Brandon Carter back there.

- I got to the game extremely early and the place was empty. I was concerned about the crowd but it filled in nicely. There were a TON of people in the club sections watching the Rangers game on TV.

- LOVED the black on black uniforms. I still prefer the black jersey/purple pants look from last week, but the all black was a nice touch for this game.

The Frogs return to action next Saturday as they travel to Laramie to take on Wyoming. The Frogs should get the W, but weird things happen in Wyoming so you never know. Getting pretty hyped for that Boise game...

BYU vs. TCU: Preview and Predictions

BYU (6-2) vs. TCU (5-2)

Friday, October 28, 2011

7:00 PM- ESPN

Cowboys Stadium

Current line: TCU -13.5

TCU takes on former Mountain West Conference foe BYU tomorrow night at Cowboys Stadium. I am extremely confident that the Frogs will emerge victorious and the thought of a loss hasn’t even crossed my mind. TCU has outscored BYU 101-17 in their last three meetings and TCU will own BYU once again this season.

Why TCU Wins: BYU’s athletes might be bigger and older but they cannot keep up with the speed of the TCU offense or defense. The Cougars are allowing 4 yards per rush and their secondary has given up more passing yards this season than TCU. I think Casey Pachall will have a big day and we will see more improvement from the defense.

Prediction: TCU over BYU 35-18
Offensive Player of the Game:
Casey Pachall
Defensive Player of the Game:
Greg McCoy

West Virginia to the Big 12?

According to Lenn Robbins of the New York Post, the Big 12 has its eyes on replacing Missouri with West Virginia which will cripple the Big East even further.

NYPost.com

The Big East Football Conference's survival as a league with BCS automatic-qualifier status is about to take a serious hit because the Big 12 has lined up West Virginia to replace Missouri, The Post has learned.

The Big 12 held a board of directors meeting yesterday, and a source said the league's plan is to hold on to Missouri, which wants to leave for the SEC, for one more year then replace it with West Virginia.

Personally I would love the addition of West Virginia. They don’t really fit geographically with the rest of the Big 12 teams, but I prefer WVU over BYU or Louisville or whoever else was in the mix.
