TCU Helmet on Display

If you aren’t watching Darren Rovell’s sports business show on Versus by now, you should be. It comes on Friday nights at 6:00 and it’s great. I love the shows that NBC has added to Versus, the channel is already much better. To give you more incentive to watch, Rovell had the TCU helmet on display for this week’s show. Pretty cool.

Garlon Green Has Hops

I don’t normally post about Frogs basketball but here is a video of TCU’s Garlon Green throwing down a nasty dunk at practice. Out there looking like his brother Gerald.

SMU vs. TCU: Preview and Predictions

SMU (3-1) @ #20 TCU (3-1)

Saturday, October 1, 2011

2:30 PM- CBS College Sports

Amon G. Carter Stadium

Current line: TCU -13.5

It’s time for another chapter in the Battle for the Iron Skillet between TCU and SMU. The Frogs hold the 44-39-7 series edge over the Mustangs and have won 10 of the last 11. Gary Patterson is 8-1 against SMU and I fully expect TCU to add another W in the win column. It will not be easy. I expect it to be close for most of the game, but the Frogs will prevail victorious.

Why TCU wins: The Frogs talent will ultimately prevail over SMU. Although the defense has been questionable at times, the Frogs still have the better athletes. I am totally confident that the offense will continue to perform like it has been and I think we will see a big day from Casey Pachall. This is a game the Frogs will come out fired up for and hopefully the fans do their part also.

Prediction: TCU over SMU 42-30
Offensive Player of the Game:
Casey Pachall
Defensive Player of the Game:
Greg McCoy

Positive Signs on TCU to Big XII Front

If you remember, Chip Brown of Orangebloods.com posted this article last week talking about how TCU could be a top target for the Big XII. That rumor had kind of died down, until yesterday. The TCU to the Big XII rumors have heated up once again and there were some positives Tweets circulating on Twitter from some interesting people. Check it out.

Blair Kerkhoff- Kansas City Star

Chris Level- RedRaiderSports.com and 104.3 ESPN Radio Lubbock

Hopefully the Big XII is waking up to the possibility of adding TCU to the conference.

Concerns for TCU Against SMU

The SMU game is quickly approaching which means my uneasiness grows by the day. I think TCU wins this game, but it won’t be easy. Here are some of my concerns heading into Saturday.

Slow starts on defense. TCU can’t afford to get behind early and give confidence to the SMU offense. The Frogs need to take control from the first kickoff and lets the Ponies know they have no chance whatsoever. TCU has started the previous two games a little flat, they have to start better on Saturday.

Controlling Zach Line. SMU running back Zach Line killed the Frogs last season rushing for 139 yards and one touchdown. Line already has 463 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. There are rumors that Line has been playing with a separated shoulder, but that is no reason to take him lightly. If TCU can’t slow down the SMU rushing attack, it could be a long day.

Shaky secondary. The TCU secondary has been mediocre at best this season and hasn’t really been tested since week one against Baylor. SMU comes in at 15th overall in passing at 321 yard per game. Can the Frogs contain the SMU offense and avoid giving up the big plays?

Defensive line pressure. TCU only has 8 sacks this season. It’s time to turn the pressure up. J.J. McDermott has thrown at least one interception in his last three games. The Frogs need to get after him and force SMU into mistakes.

If TCU can show improvement in these areas, they will be just fine against SMU.
