Big Week for TCU with Super Bowl In Town

Not that this matters really, but the end zones of Amon G. Carter Stadium were painted over the weekend. I am assuming TCU did that for any overhead shots that might be shown of the campus during Super Bowl week. That or they just wanted something for the field crew to do…

It will be a big week for TCU with the Super Bowl in town. Obviously the Steelers are practicing on campus, and ESPN has already given TCU and Ft. Worth a lot of love over the airwaves. Make sure you wear purple if you are out and about this week.

Wayne Daniels and Jake Kirkpatrick To Play In NFLPA Game

From TCU Media Relations: TCU first-team All-Americans Wayne Daniels and Jake Kirkpatrick will play for Team Texas in the Feb. 5 NFL Players Association Game at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Kirkpatrick, the Rimington Trophy winner as the nation's top center, is currently in Mobile, Ala., at the Senior Bowl.

Daniels led TCU's 2011 Rose Bowl championship team with 14 tackles for loss and 6 1/2 sacks from his defensive end position. Daniels and TCU quarterback Andy Dalton were the only two unanimous first-team All-Mountain West Conference selections this season.

In addition to winning the Rimington Trophy, Kirkpatrick was the lone offensive player to be one of four finalists for the Rotary Lombardi Award.

Lamar at TCU in 2011?

As you know, TCU is still working to complete its 2011 football schedule. Yesterday I posted that an announcement should be coming soon. Today, the Beaumont Enterprise has an article stating that TCU and Lamar are in discussions for a 2011 game in Ft. Worth.

Beaumont Enterprise:

Rose Bowl champion Texas Christian might have the Lamar University football team as a guest for a game during the 2011 season.

The Horned Frogs are still searching for opponents to fill out their schedule, which got another void after Texas Tech backed out of a Sept. 10 date last week.

Lamar and TCU are currently in negotiations to settle on a date, according to a person with knowledge of the discussions.

Not good. TCU fans will just have to face the facts that years home games will not be against quality teams. What can you do though when your two best home games are yanked out from under you in the same week? I’m talking to you Texas Tech and Boise State.

I also posted a tweet from Stefan Stephenson yesterday where he said he thought a game with Texas State was close to being finalized. I am now hearing that is no longer true, and Texas State will not be on the 2011 schedule. SpitBloodTCU.com and a few other people have been rumoring a TCU/BYU game at Cowboys Stadium. I don’t know how legit that is, but with BYU being able to play 13 games this season, it could be a possibility.

2011 TCU Schedule Coming Soon/Texas State??

Tuesday I asked TCU beat writer Stefan Stevenson of the Star-Telegram if he had any new information on the 2011 TCU schedule or who the Frogs might be looking at? He responded with this:

Once that was tweeted, it was followed up with more questions on the schedule. Stefan relayed that it is a “legit” opponent, and TCU fans should pleased.

Here is a bit of disappointing news, it appears that TCU will once again take on Texas State as they did in 2009.

Stay tuned for all the latest, and don’t forget to follow me on Twitter @AngryTrey.

TCU Playing in Boise is Now Official for 2011

The rumors had been swirling, but today we finally got a verdict. The Mountain West Conference has moved the Boise State/TCU game to Boise. Oh joy…

It’s a total embarrassment that TCU has to play on that blue turf. I posted about this last Wednesday if you want to read my comments on this situation. Thanks Mountain West Conference, enjoy the millions of dollars TCU brought to your conference.
