TCU Beats Down UNLV 48-6

The Horned Frogs held their opponent to single digits in scoring for the sixth time in nine games this season as TCU beat down a bad UNLV team 48-6 last night in Las Vegas. I don’t have a lot of time, so let’s break this one down quickly…

- Andy Dalton was 16-of-23 for 252 yards and 2 TD’s. He also had 30 yards and a touchdown on the ground as well. It was a typical day for Dalton.

- Colin Jones’ 30-yard second-quarter interception return for a touchdown was TCU’s third pick returned for a score this season.

- I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but the defense was outstanding once again. TCU limited UNLV to 197 yards of total offense. The Horned Frogs have held their opponent to fewer than 200 yards five times this season, including four times in its five MWC contests.

- TCU allowed 128 yards passing and remains the only team in the nation to surrender less than 200 yards in the air in every game this season.

- Josh Boyce continues to impress me. Boyce had a 54 yard touchdown reception which is his fourth of the season.

- Tank Carder and Colin Jones both tied a career-high in tackles. Carder had a team-best 10 stops, while Jones totaled nine tackles.

- What is going on with all the fumble??? Matthew Tucker lost one and probably should have lost another. Ed Wesley fumbled once and Dalton let the ball hit the ground. This problem HAS to be resolved by next weekend.

I don’t know if I am going to be able to make it through this week. The anticipation for Utah is already building. As you saw in my earlier post, ESPN College Gameday WILL be in Salt Lake City for the game, and it should be a great one! Utah looked very beatable against Air Force.

Go Frogs!!!

ESPN College Gameday Confirmed!

ESPN College Gameday for TCU/Utah?

This was recently “tweeted” by ESPN’s Chris Fowler. Utah held on to beat Air Force and as long as TCU holds on to their current 28-6 lead over UNLV, we will see ESPN’s College Gameday in Utah on the 6th for TCU/Utah.

Anson Kelton Tabbed Candidate for Ray Guy Award

From TCU Media Relations: The Augusta Sports Council has announced TCU's Anson Kelton as a candidate for the 2010 Ray Guy Award, presented to the nation's top punter.

Kelton is averaging a career-best 42.0 yards this season. Opponents have returned just 10 of 26 TCU punts for a total of 53 yards (5.3 avg.). Kelton has 12 punts inside the 20 with only three touchbacks.

Over the last two seasons, the 6-foot-4, 280-pound Kelton has placed 31 punts inside the 20 with just four touchbacks. A junior from Fort Worth, Texas, Kelton graduated from Aledo High School.

Fresno State and Nevada Joining MWC in 2012

I hate this latest news coming out about the move of Fresno State and Nevada from the WAC to the Mountain West Conference. I was hoping both of those teams would be in the MWC for the 2011 season, but that will not be the case.

ESPN.com

Fresno State and Nevada will remain in the Western Athletic Conference in all sports until July 2012 before leaving for the Mountain West and, in exchange, will pay a significantly lower exit fee after reaching an agreement with the WAC this week.

The remaining six WAC schools held a conference call Wednesday night to approve the agreement. In making the announcement Thursday, the WAC said Fresno State and Nevada each will pay a $900,000 departure fee, much lower than the anticipated $5 million it had hoped to collect from the two for breaking an agreement that they would stay in the conference for five years.

This means that the Mountain West conference will have eight members of the conference in 2011 after Boise State is added. The Mountain West will then be back up to 10 teams in 2012.

I am assuming that TCU is now on the lookout for another out of conference opponent for next season. Currently the Frogs are scheduled for games at Baylor and against Texas Tech and SMU. I would really like to see them add another quality opponent to the schedule.

TCU Uniform Update/Dick Bumpas Honored

It’s kind of a slower week with UNLV on the schedule for this Saturday, but here are a couple quick stories for you to check out.

On the uniform front, it looks as if TCU will have another uniform combination for the final home game against San Diego State. As most of you know, that is the last game in Amon G. Carter Stadium as it is currently constructed. Renovation on the stadium will begin following that game and the Frogs will be wearing special uniforms for the occasion.

Star-Telegram.com

TCU coach Gary Patterson said Tuesday that for the finale of Amon G. Carter Stadium as we know it on Nov. 13, his team will wear its classic purple and white uniforms. Patterson wants the team to go out of The Carter as it came in.

I am a big fan of Mac Engel’s idea for Coach Patterson:

I asked GP if he would do the same and sport the old school suit and a fedora. He didn't sound very committed to the concept. He needs to be.

This needs to happen. If TCU remains undefeated through its next two games, Gary Patterson needs to go Abe Martin for the Amon G. Carter Stadium finale.

Also, TCU defensive coordinator Dick Bumpas will be inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame.

From TCU Medial Relations: TCU defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Dick Bumpas has been selected for the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame.

Bumpas is among 11 inductees that include Texas Rangers' pitcher Cliff Lee.

Bumpas was the 1970 Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a consensus All-America defensive tackle for Arkansas. He was a three-year letterman for the Razorbacks and a team captain.
