New TCU Uniform for Opening Game?

Here is another hint/clue about the TCU Football Uniforms for the upcoming 2010 Season. We now know the Frogs will have new home and away uniforms, but is there another special alternate uniform in the mix for the Oregon State game?

ESPNDallas.com

Patterson hinted that the Frogs could be wearing new duds for the Sept. 4 season opener at Cowboys Stadium. "We've got a couple games -- at least one game, could be two games -- where we've got a chance for a special uniform this year," Patterson said. "Who knows, it may even be the first game."

TCU debuted the Nike Pro Combat uniform that included the grey helmet with thin red striping (supposed to represent blood real Horned Frogs spit as a defense mechanism) last season against Utah and brought them back for the Fiesta Bowl against Boise State. Patterson said the team still has those uniforms, but he seemed to be suggesting that a new uniform could be in the fold for the opener. The Frogs, Patterson said, will also still wear their traditional uniform -- black paints, purple jerseys and purple helmets -- although he said those uniforms have changed "just a little bit."

I love it! What does surprise me is that they wouldn’t wear their new away uniforms for the first game, and instead wear some different alternate. It is going to be hard for Nike to beat the “Bloodlines” uniform from last season.

NBCSports Tabs TCU #3 in Their Pre-Season Top 25

NBCSports.com released their College Football pre-season top 25 today. NBC has the Horned Frogs at the #3 spot which I believe is this highest pre-season ranking TCU has received from any publication to this point. I expect a pre-season top 10 ranking for the Frogs this season, but I really didn’t expect many to have them higher than the five spot.

NBCSports.com

3. TCU

Offensive: TCU’s football brand is synonymous with defense, but let’s not overlook the Horned Frogs’ offense. After all, in case you’ve forgotten, they averaged 38 points per game last season. Senior quarterback Andy Dalton, a fourth-year starter, deserves better than his well-worn reputation as a game-manager. Last season, he displayed big-play ability and had just eight interceptions. He will be working with some of the Mountain West Conference’s best receivers, including big-play junior Antoine Hicks, who scored 10 touchdowns, and senior Jeremy Kerley. Sophomore running back Matthew Tucker looks to build upon an excellent freshman season. Four starters return to the offensive line, including all-conference senior center Jake Kirkpatrick.

Defensive: Six starters return from a unit that led the nation in total defense (allowing just 239.7 yards per game). Unfortunately, none of them are named Jerry Hughes. The Horned Frogs will certainly miss Hughes, the pass-rushing terror who is off to the NFL, but there are nice returning bookends in senior Wayne Daniels and junior Baylon Broughton. TCU also will rely on two linebackers, junior Tank Carder and sophomore Tanner Brock, to cover the field and provide leadership. TCU employs a five-man secondary and three starters return, including senior All-American candidate Tejay Johnson at free safety. Junior cornerback Greg McCoy, the team’s fastest player, is a potential star.

Another Glimpse at New TCU Football Jersey

Ive been trying to keep you updated on the TCU uniform situation as it develops. We have already seen the uniforms in EA Sports NCAA 11, and caught a quick glimpse of them in a TCU video shoot, and now here is a picture from Mountain West Conference Media day yesterday.

Andy Dalton Named to Manning Award Watch List

The preseason accolades for TCU quarterback Andy Dalton continue to stack up. Dalton already appears on the Davey O’Brien and Johnny Unitas watch lists, and now you can add the Manning Award.

From TCU Media Relations:

TCU's Andy Dalton has been named to the watch list for the Manning Award, presented to the nation's top quarterback.

The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that takes into consideration the candidates bowl performance.

Dalton was one of 10 finalists for the Manning Award last season in addition to being named to a pair of All-America teams. It's the third national award to tab Dalton as a candidate in 2010.

Best Sports Celebration Ever?

It ranks up there with the best of them, this is hilarious!

TCU Football Cleans Up At MWC Media Day

As I posted earlier, Mountain West Conference Media day is today and the TCU Horned Frogs are sitting nicely. TCU was the unanimous pick to win its second consecutive Mountain West Conference championship in a poll of media members announced Tuesday in Las Vegas. The Horned Frogs are the first unanimous selection in the 12-year history of the league. TCU garnered all 31 first-place votes and earned a total of 279 points.

2010 Mountain West Conference Preseason Poll (First-place votes are in parentheses.)

1. TCU (31)-279
2. Utah- 242,
3. BYU- 207,
4. Air Force- 195
5. Wyoming- 147
6. San Diego State-128
7. Colorado State-96
8. UNLV- 56
9. New Mexico- 45

The Frogs also swept the individual preseason MWC honors. In voting done by the league media, quarterback Andy Dalton was named Preseason MWC Offensive Player of the Year, linebacker Tank Carder was selected as Defensive Player of the Year and punt/kick returner Jeremy Kerley was tabbed Special Teams Player of the Year.

From TCU Media Relations:

In addition to being selected for major awards, Dalton, Carder and Kerley also were among a league-best group of eight Horned Frogs named to the preseason all-conference squad. Dalton and Kerley were two of only three unanimous selections along with BYU offensive lineman Matt Reynolds.

Five other Frogs were also named Preseason All-MWC, including Marcus Cannon (OL), Wayne Daniels (DL), Ross Evans (PK), Cory Grant (DL) and Jake Kirkpatrick (OL).

Mountain West Conference Media Days

The Mountain West Conference Media Days get underway from Las Vegas today. I assume most of the talk will be about the addition of Boise State and where the Mount West stands in its pursuit of a BCS bid. Coach Patterson, Andy Dalton, and Tejay Johnson will be in attendance representing the Frogs. To check out the full podium schedule, go HERE.

Also, The TCU/ISP Sports Network will broadcast live on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Central Time. The broadcast can be heard on KTCU 88.7 FM as well as over the Internet courtesy of GoFrogs.com.

If you want to check out any of the press conferences, the Mountain West website is supposed to be streaming them HERE.

2010 TCU Roster Full of Senior Leadership

The TCU football team will be welcoming back 27 seniors to its 2010 roster. That is good for second in the NCAA behind Hawaii who has 30. That means this Horned Frog team brings back a lot of experience from a squad who just made a run to the Fiesta Bowl last season.

I'm Sooo Bored! Hurry Up Football

Ok, as great as this summer has been for sports, I need it to be over. It started off great with all the college football realignment rumors, and then we had NBA free agency, the World Cup, and couple other things I am forgetting right now. All of that was great and entertaining. I am bored now though.

Baseball is not interesting and does not entertain me. I hope the Rangers have success, and I hope they make a deep playoff run, but I just can’t get into them. I can’t take it anymore! I need football season to get here ASAP!!

Cowboys training camp gets underway on Saturday, TCU starts up at the beginning of August, and that helps some, but it still doesn’t fill the void of real games. I need some action, because this is getting boring.

ESPN Chooses Ft. Worth Over Dallas

I am sure we can expect all kinds of Super Bowl news over the next seven months as the hype for the big game in Arlington grows. We know that the AFC Champion will be using TCU’s practice facilities, and now we know ESPN will be joining them in Ft. Worth.

DallasNews.com

ESPN took a look at Dallas and Fort Worth to determine which would be the ideal setting for its studio shows leading up to Super Bowl XLV, and the worldwide leader in sports chose where the West begins.

Shows in ESPN's family of networks such as NFL Live will be live from Fort Worth, specifically Sundance Square, and not from Dallas or its surrounding suburbs.

Suck it Dallas!
