New TCU Rivalry Uniform for Utah Game

10 of the top football programs in the country have been chosen by Nike for special one-time uniforms to be worn in a rivalry game this year. TCU will be wearing theirs this Saturday, the 14th against Utah in Ft. Worth. Nike has the uniform setup at the TCU Bookstore so people can go and take a look at it.

This is supposed to be the next generation of Nike uniforms and it is awesome that TCU was selected. I personally like the look of these new uniforms. I wish there was a little more purple in the pants or helmet but other than that, I have no complaints. I bet they look good on the field and in HD.

The red lines on the helmet represent the blood that Horned Frogs shoot out of their eyes. It is hard to see from the pictures, but the pants have a lizard scale pattern type look to them. I’m a big fan of the jersey.

  1. Sweet deal. I dig the helmet. The jersey is ok. Wish it didn't have that goofy design on the shoulders. I'll definitely hit up the bookstore this week to see it close up though.

  2. This is bad. Back when we had silver helmets, we won one game each year. Then, Dan Jenkins reminded us that TCU had to have purple helmets. It worked. This helmet isn't purple. Why change now?

  3. The red is on the helmet looks terrible. It's not even a school color and the strip layout is bad. I don't care if it is suppose to symbolize blood. The school and it's marketing needs to keep ther eye on the ball by building a consistent image to project which I think their curren look provides. TCU athletic/PR nneds to avoid the novelty gimmocks that distract from the program(s). Rather they need to be focusing on connecting with the community, reduce endzone and upper deck ticket prices and fill the seats.

I dont have any idea what the arrangement with Nike is but it would only be worth it if Nike paid a large sum of money to the school.

  4. Nike gave the uniforms and all the publicity to TCU for free. I dont see any reason to complain. They selected 10 teams to do this for and TCU is one of them.

Its not like TCU has one uniform for its entire time so there is really no need to build a consistent image with our uniforms. Its not like we are Penn State, Texas, or Michigan.

  5. Agreed, I REALLY don't like the helmets. I love our purple helmets with the horned frog on them. I think the concept of the "bloodlines" is cool, but I don't like Nike jacking with our school colors. The black pants with the purple jerseys is an awesome and intimidating look. Let's hope this stunt doesn't distract our guys this weekend. We must dominate this game!!

  6. The helmets should be purple with the red lines. The jersey should be purple, white, and silver. No need for black at all.

The pants are surprisingly not horrible.

  7. I personally thing the pants are horrible. I'm no fashionista, but many components of this jersey seem novel or trendy. How will that stand the test of time -- like the Notre Dame green jerseys, which have been around for 20-something years. It is about licensing money, but I admire TCU for putting it out there.

  11. I mean those new silly looking TCU football costumes are soo ridiculous, and so out of kilter compared to a traditional Horned Frog look.. so please get rid of those silly costumes and get back to the conventional look... You never know how carma works... Its funny that they played with those silly costumes against Boise St. and got beat... Hopefully never wear that silly nonsense again..

  12. I'm a fan of them, but I don't think they are coming back for 2010. You mention the Fiesta Bowl but they also blew out Utah in them in front of the biggest crowd in Amon Carter Stadium history.
